Recently Google has announced to offer $2.7 million for anyone who will be able to hack its Google Chrome Operating System at the Pwnium 4 hacking contest in March.
Google is hosting Pwnium 4 Hacking contest in March 2014 and Google has decided to offer a total reward of $2.71828 million in for security experts. “With a total of $2.71828 million in the pot, we’ll issue Pwnium rewards for eligible Chrome OS exploits at $110,000 for browser or system-level compromise in guest mode or as a logged-in user, delivered via a web page,” it said.
The division for the reward is in given manner:
1) $110,000 for each “browser or system-level compromise in guest mode or as a logged-in user, delivered via a web page.”
2) $150,000 to anyone who can “compromise with device persistence: guest to guest with interim reboot, delivered via a web page.”
In addition to this, Google is also planning to give bonus for demonstrating “a particularly impressive or surprising exploit.” “New this year, we will also consider significant bonuses for demonstrating a particularly impressive or surprising exploit. Potential examples include defeating kASLR, exploiting memory corruption in the 64-bit browser process or exploiting the kernel directly from a renderer process,” it said.
Google provided 3 examples as defeating kASLR, exploiting memory corruption in the 64-bit browser process, or exploiting the kernel directly from a renderer process. This year, security experts can choose between an ARM-based Chromebook (the WiFi-only HP Chromebook 11) or the Acer C720 Chromebook (the WiFi-only 2GB version) to find the hack.
Pwnium 4 is determined to turn up on March 12 at the Canadian Security conference.
