Google has acquired mobile service company Divide (Formerly known as Enterproid) that allows organizations to manage smartphones that consumers use on the job.
Divide confirmed this deal on its website. Divide said in a note posted on its website “The Company was founded with a simple mission: Give people the best mobile experience at work. As part of the Android team, we’re excited to continue developing solutions that our users love”, “For existing customers, Divide will work as it always has. Thank you to everyone who has downloaded our app, partnered with us, invested in us and provided feedback along the way; we truly appreciate all your support.”
The deal could help Google as Google is reportedly working on new business-specific features for the next version of Android. Divide offers apps on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Description of Divide app on Google Play Store reads “Divide delivers the ultimate mobile productivity tool to get work done securely on your Android device. Check your work email, view your calendar, look up contacts and more, all in one encrypted workspace without worrying about your privacy or the threat of your company wiping your device. Divide syncs with Exchange ActiveSync, Google Apps, and Lotus Notes and offers a complete BYOD solution for individuals and IT.”
Divide app separates the user’s personal and corporate data available in their smartphone, thus making it easier for them to manage personal device that consumers uses on the job. At the same time Divide does not affects what you can install on the personal side of the phone.
According to the report Divide had raised some $25 million from investors including Google Ventures, Globespan Capital Partners, Harmony Partners, Comcast Ventures, and Qualcomm Ventures.
