Google has successfully begun testing a new feature in its Google Maps app for android users that would only allow data to be downloaded by a Wi-Fi connection. This unique feature will help users with the limited data plan as well.
Select users can find the mode in the Maps settings menu in place of the “Offline areas” option. When it enabled, the app will suddenly warns that a small amount of mobile data may still be used, but significantly less than usual. The switch essentially cuts Maps off from cellular data, only loading new information over Wi-Fi, the app will working similarly to the “Use Cellular Data for” option switches in iOS’ own Settings app.

Google reported today that it has publicly released EarlGrey, a bit of programming that developers can use to all the more effortlessly build and run user interface tests on source code for iOS applications. Written in Objective-C, EarlGrey is available now on GitHub under an open-source Apache license.

Google today updated its Maps app for iOS, bringing over some features that’ve been on Android for about a month. The biggest among them is much better offline maps support. Now you can select a portion of the map and save it locally onto your iPhone or iPad. And this does more than just save the local street layout. Saving a section of Maps lets you search for destinations even without a data connection; you can also get turn-by-turn navigation, business hours, and contact details when offline.
