China introduces its new Operating System with the aim of replacing iOS and Android with its own COS (China Operating System). Engadget reports, Shanghai Laintong is the company developing COS in partnership with the Institute of Software at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISCAS).
China unveils this at a ceremony in Beijing on Wednesday and said that China Operating System (COS) is designed to run on different devices including smartphones, tablets and personal pc’s. China Operating System or COS is based on Linux and is available for use in China and HTC is providing the hardware support for it (for now). The Linux-based operating system, COS is the product of the Institute of Software at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISCAS) and the Chinese tech company Shanghai Liantong.
COS can be used on different touch screen phones and it already supports thousands of apps. Moreover it is also compatible with the tablets, personal computers as well as TV set-top boxes.”The operating system has already risen to become a national security matter,” said Shanghai Liantong Network Communications Technology in a statement on its website.
COS is expected to be more secure than Android and Windows Operating System.
